Dr. Barry J. Berkowitz is President of Berkowitz Acquisitions and is a licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of Florida. Through his corporate and entrepreneurial experience, he gained expertise to specialize in mergers and acquisitions in the fields of technology, healthcare and education, both locally, nationally and internationally. As a result of his education and experience, he has earned the prestigious title of Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) from the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA). CBI is the designation awarded by the IBBA to members that have met stringent educational requirements and ethical standards. IBBA is the largest international, non-profit association operating exclusively for the benefit of individuals and firms engaged in business brokerage as well as mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
In 2014, Barry received the honor of Fellow of the IBBA in recognition of his professionalism, achievements, and service to the industry. Barry also received the designation of Merger & Acquisition Master Intermediary (M&AMI) from the M&A Source, an IBBA sister organization whose professionals operate in the M&A middle market. Successful completion of the M&AMI certification process significantly distinguishes M&A professionals within their field. Barry is the recipient of the 2015 IBBA Tom West Award (for outstanding communication and promotion of the goals and ethics of business brokering), and 2016 IBBA Board of Directors as the Chairman of their Affiliates Council.
Barry is also the President of Berkowitz Consulting, established in 1988, where he has accumulated extensive consulting experience in turnaround management, strategic planning and in raising funds for growing companies. Industries that Dr. Berkowitz has served include technology, healthcare, manufacturing and real estate.
During the early part of his career, Dr. Berkowitz was a scientist and then a corporate manager with Exxon. He has published extensively and holds several patents. Dr. Berkowitz received his B.E.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering and Materials Sciences from Stony Brook University. He previously served as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the New Jersey Entrepreneurs Forum, sponsored by the NJ State Office on Science and Technology. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of various businesses and is an officer of Business Brokers of Florida.
